Rockwool Germany Sail Grand Prix – Record Breaking Day

Day 1 of the Rockwool Germany Sail Grand Prix in Sassnitz Saturday, was a record breaking day.

SailGP’s all-time speed record was broken as DS Automobiles SailGP Team France hit 107.63 km/h (58 knots).

The French team smashed the existing record of 103.93 km/h – set by Danish team ROCKWOOL Racing in Sassnitz last season – in the final race of the opening day of the ROCKWOOL Germany Sail Grand Prix.

The F50s were set up for the day with the 18-metre rig, small jib, and high-speed foils.

Sunday will continue with the 13 teams split into two fleets. Each Group will contest two more races, before the top four teams progress into the winner-takes-all event final.

After the day 1 session Peter Burling and the Black Foils have a one point lead in Group A from Quentin Delapierre’s DS Autobobiles France.

They have a safe looking four point lead from Spain’s Diego Botin third tied on 7 pts with Sebastien Schneiter of Switzerland.

In Group B, Tom Slingsby and the Bonds Flying Roos have a one point lead from Nathan Outteridge on Artemis, with Canada’s Giles Scott and Dylan Fletcher and Emirates GBR still within reach of making the Final four.

Racing starts Sunday 13:00 BST.
